No rushing wind of tinny oratory
Televangelized to far-off shores,
No “binding Satan” in a blaze of glory
Nor a generalship in spiritual wars;
No power-packed prophetic proclamations
In the spirit of self-anointed seers
Summoning up a deluge of ovations
From adoring fans with itching ears;
No limelight shining round him on a stage
With throngs “slain in the Spirit” at his feet…
Berkhof had but the lamplight on the page,
The glow of Scripture, perfect and complete.
Studying in the Spirit, a systematician
Teaching truth with reverent precision.
